The changes will impact every Ontario business, and certain sectors such as retail, food, hospital and building services will be especially affected. Minimum wage is set to increase $14.00 on January 1, 2018 and then increase again to $15.00 on January 1, 2019. In addition, there will be changes to scheduling practices, overtime, public holidays, vacation, leaves of absences, pay practices and more. Some of these initiatives could come into force as early as next year.
Our Ontario L&E team will review the ESA-specific parts of the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017, and discuss the practical implications for Ontario employers.
