  • About this Program:

Inflation, COVID, climate change, cyber-security, crypto currency, a more interventionist regulator, plan sustainability and new plans that seem too good to be true. How are workplace pension and benefit plans responding to recent trends, risks and opportunities? What are you doing? What are we seeing?

This year our lawyers represented clients in several key legal disputes - that we can talk about. We participated on CAPSA and other regulatory working groups, and we were featured speakers at international legal events relating to pensions and benefits. Our speakers will provide legal and governance insights into management of key trends and the legal opportunities and risks they present. We will also identify and discuss key legislative and case law developments.

    1. Topics Include:

    Annual Case Law Update

    1. Recent court and regulatory proceedings: a busier than usual pensions docket!

    Annual Regulatory and Legislative Review

    1. Three new CAPSA Guidelines: ESG, cyber-risk and leverage by pension funds
    2. Tax changes: focus on plan borrowing restrictions

    Life, Health and Other Benefits

    1. Change is coming. Are you ready?
    2. Top trending benefits and perks, the legal implications: hybrid working, a four-day work week, hiring bonuses, menopause awareness and pet friendly policies
    3. Proposed changes to Ontario's publicly funded health care system that may affect your benefit plans

Crypto-Currency as a Pension Plan Investment

    1. DB and DC providers are exploring new investment classes. This session will provide a primer on crypto, key commercial considerations for all and specialized issues for pension fund investors.

    The Power Lunch Panel

    1. Report from Amsterdam: In late August, three of our lawyers spoke at the two-day International Pension & Employee Benefits Lawyers Association Biennial conference in Amsterdam. They'll share some of our local trends and international trends and challenges that will or may affect Canadian pension and benefit plans.

Announcements – Welcomes, Celebrations and Thank You's
