• Cybersecurity/Privacy: There are a number of new developments in this area, and we will provide an update of what you “need to know”. This includes regulatory developments from the federal and provincial privacy commissions, and recent Canadian and international case law;
• Outsourcing/Procurement: There have been some very important developments involving different IT procurement models, including cloud-related transaction models, and material developments in the public sector – we’ll highlight all of them;
• Fintech: The intersection of IT and financial services continues to generate new and novel issues, and we’ll drill down into a few specific business models, regulatory issues and commercial parameters that we believe are starting to move the goalposts in this area;
• Tech Hot Topics: Beyond the items noted above, we will also address the latest legal, IP, and commercial developments in: artificial intelligence; telematics/connected/ autonomous cars; SaaS computing; and provide a CASL update, and a post Budget “tax developments for tech transactions” overview;
• Lunch Speaker: Every year a notable highlight is our lunch speaker – you may recall last year’s popular
address by a leader of Amazon’s Web Services in Canada. This year’s speaker will be extremely engaging!
• Tech M&A Annual Update: Once again, we will have a guest speaker give a survey of the tech, financial and M&A market, including commentary from a legal perspective on the latest regulatory developments involving crowdfunding and developments in M&A transactions. If you’re a tech entrepreneur, or an investor in tech companies, you will not want to miss this session!
